Our Founder Harry Schnabel, Jr.
Founder and Guiding Spirit
1928-2003
As a young man, Harry Schnabel, Jr. had decided to start his own business, and Schnabel Foundation Company began on April 6, 1959, during his thirtieth year. From the very beginning he stressed integrity, performance, innovation and competitiveness - all combined with excellent engineering. He battled for the acceptance of more economical design methods and for more productive union assignments. These advantages were combined with important patents to produce further savings. Within a specialized industry, Schnabel came to be recognized as the industry leader.
At the same time, Harry thought of his employees and how to make their careers more rewarding. He planned to make Schnabel Foundation Company “the best place to work in the local construction industry”. This meant steady work and challenging, growing jobs. He realized that his objectives required superior employees and he hired them at all levels. Then he gave them a chance to become even better.
All of this was made possible by the good economic performance of the business. Harry always insisted that his business be organized to be competitive and profitable, and he reinvested capital in the Company to help it grow.
