Sweetwater Reconstruction Project
City: San Diego
State: CA
Owner: Stone Point Sweetwater Homeowners Association
General Contractor: Chester A Carville & Engineering
Project Description:
The Sweetwater Reconstruction project in Spring Valley, CA (near San Diego) was a five-stage project involving construction on four different slopes to rehabilitate a creeping hillside. The rehabilitation involved drilling strand tiebacks as deep as 135 ft through concrete anchor blocks.
As each stage was completed, it allowed for a check and possible redesign before going on to the next stage. This allowed for constant improvements in design and productivity. Each stage had slightly different conditions from the previous one which required re-examination of the construction process each time.
After the concrete element blocks were anchored and tested, the slope was backfilled and re-vegetated, effectively returning the area to its natural state and making the wall invisible.
