Pasadena Light Rail
City: Pasadena
State: CA
Owner: Blue Rail Light Rail Authority
General Contractor: Kiewit/Washington
Project Description:
When the Blue Line was extended through historic Old Town Pasadena, CA, it required that Schnabel Foundation Company design and construct underpinning support structures for ten of the town's buildings. One building was a four-story parking garage constructed in the 1980’s, and one was a six-story building constructed in the 1940’s. Eight buildings were one- and two-story brick masonry structures constructed in the early 1900’s.
The six-story building was supported by continuous piers. The work was scheduled to be completed in 130 shifts and was actually constructed in 134 shifts. Building settlements were all less than the prescribed1/2 inch and the project was completed with no property claims.
