Project Description:

The proposed building foundation, covering an area of approximately 700 feet by 325 feet, was constructed below the water table and the structure did not have adequate dead weight to prevent it from floating out of the groung when the water table is at its maximum anticipated elevation.

To provide resistance to hydrostatic uplift of the CalPERS structure, Schnabel installed 674 permanent tiedown anchors in silty sand and gravel.  The tiedowns were completed in approximately two months, over two weeks ahead of schedule.
