Chart House - Aspen, CO

City: Aspen

State: CO

Owner: DV Capitol Holdings LLC

General Contractor: Shaw Builders

Project Description:

When tiebacks and soil nails cannot be used, we can design shoring walls to be internally braced.  This cross braced system was an economic solution since anchors could not be used.

On this job in Aspen, CO, the contractor did not want to use rakers (downward angled braces) as these would penetrate the new floor slabs making building construction and brace removal more difficult.  A diagonal cross brace system was used.  Horizontal pipe braces were installed diagonally across the lot.  It allowed the braces to all be removed at the same time without hindering the building process.

Soldier piles were installed.  The site was then excavated to brace grade.  Wood lagging was installed to provide temporary support for the soil in between soldier piles.  The braces were then installed to support the lateral earth pressures.
