SR528 & SR436
City: Orlando
State: FL
Owner: Orange County Expressway Authority
General Contractor: Southland Construction, Inc.
Project Description:
The improvements for SR528 & SR436 Interchange required the removal of the slope in front of the four (4) existing bridge abutments for the SR436 bridges over SR528. Schnabel Foundation Company designed and built four (4) anchored retaining walls to protect the existing bridge abutments and support the lateral earth and surcharge loads. The retaining walls were approximately 16.5 to 20.0 ft. high and had a total overall length of 480 ft. The anchored walls consisted of soldier beams, wood lagging, permanent tiebacks, wall drains and welded shear connectors. Under the existing bridges, hand dug concrete soldier beams were utilized due to limited overhead clearance, while driven H-pile soldier beams were used outside of the limits of the existing bridges. A precast concrete facing (by others) was attached to the anchored retaining walls.
