Background
Originally built in 1988 and modified in 2001, the Roberto Bustamante Wastewater Treatment Plant required upgrades to resolve operational issues and prepare for future expansion. A new influent pump station—key to the treatment process—was included in the facility’s 2019 improvement plan.
Schnabel’s Solution
MGC Contractors hired Schnabel to provide earth retention and groundwater cutoff services, enabling safe construction of the new influent pump station.

J Avenue Water Treatment

Background
The City of Cedar Rapids required improvements to the J Avenue Water Treatment Plant to protect existing infrastructure and maintain reliable water service.
Schnabel’s Solution
Schnabel was contracted to install a water cutoff wall near a two-story concrete holding tank. Schnabel installed 67 jet grout columns, creating a wall that effectively retained soil and groundwater.

Provided a safe, watertight foundation that safeguarded existing structures and ensured project success.
