We offer a full suite of geotechnical design-build services customized to the healthcare industry:
Excavation Support & Cut-Off Walls
Enable the safe construction of basements and underground parking for healthcare buildings.
Underpinning
Stabilizes and supports existing medical structures adjacent to excavation zones.
Specialized Foundations
Transfers structural loads to deeper, more stable soils or bedrock for lasting stability.
Ground Improvement
Soil mixing, jet grouting, and other techniques enhance weak soil conditions to reduce settlement risk.
Deep Foundations
Crucial when surface soils can’t adequately support heavy healthcare structures.

Real-World Results in Healthcare
Precision That Supports Patient-Centered Construction
We’ve helped healthcare clients across the country overcome site challenges and deliver safe, efficient facilities. Here’s a snapshot of how we’ve made an impact.
St. Jude Outpatient Clinic & Clinical Office Building
Location:
Memphis, TN
Client:
Flintco, LLC
Background
As part of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s $12.9B campus expansion, two 15-story outpatient clinic buildings and a clinical office building were constructed to advance pediatric healthcare research and treatment.
Schnabel’s Solution
Schnabel designed and built approximately 3,000 LF of excavation support, including 311 soldier beams, 236 tiebacks, and 50,000 SF of wood lagging. The team overcame soft soils, fill, and subsurface obstructions from prior structures using adaptive design-build methods.
Results
Completed on schedule, providing stable shoring for the clinic buildings and lessons applied to future expansion phases, including an underground parking garage.
Piedmont Henry Hospital Expansion
Location:
Stockbridge, GA
Client:
Brasfield & Gorrie
Background
A $215M expansion of Piedmont Henry Hospital added a new five-story patient tower with 95 inpatient rooms, expanded parking, and three operating rooms to better serve the growing community.
Schnabel’s Solution
Schnabel designed and installed a 25-foot-deep excavation support system, including 77 soldier beams, 84 tiebacks, 32 micropiles, 15,000 SF of wood lagging, and 5,000 SF of shotcrete. The system preserved stability for the existing hospital while enabling construction of the new tower.
Results
Completed in 12 weeks, safely maintaining hospital operations and providing durable, permanent shoring for the patient tower.
