Shotcrete Companies

As a leading expert in shotcrete and foundation solutions, Schnabel delivers customized strategies to tackle complex project requirements. When construction faces uneven terrain, Schnabel installs dependable shotcrete retaining walls, providing essential stability for your project.

Shotcrete—a specialized concrete mix—is sprayed onto vertical or sloped surfaces with pneumatic precision and is often combined with soil nails to create a secure earth-retention system.

Backed by expertise in geostructural design and construction, Schnabel designs and installs robust shotcrete retaining walls tailored to meet the specific demands of your construction project.

EXPERT SHOTCRETE SERVICES

Shotcrete is a specialized concrete mix with low slump, applied by spraying it onto surfaces using compressed air. This material features a low water-to-cement ratio, high cement content, and fine aggregate, typically no larger than pea gravel. Renowned for its strength, shotcrete generally reaches compressive strengths of over 5,000 psi. Its strong adhesive properties allow it to adhere effectively to vertical and overhead surfaces without requiring formwork. With precise quality control, wall surfaces up to 8 inches thick or more can be built in a single application.

As an expert shotcrete contractor, Schnabel commonly applies shotcrete for both temporary and permanent facings on soil nail retention walls, though it is also suitable for various earth-retaining walls. For soil nail walls, a temporary shotcrete layer, typically 4 to 6 inches thick, is sprayed directly onto the excavated surface. For a permanent structure, an additional 6 to 12 inches of reinforced shotcrete is applied after the soil nails and initial shotcrete layer are in place. The final surface of the permanent facing can be finished with options such as sculpted, stained, gun-finished, or troweled, providing an aesthetic similar to traditional formed concrete walls.

NOTABLE SHOTCRETE ACHIEVEMENTS

760 Ralph McGill Blvd | Atlanta, GA

Brasfield & Gorrie, the general contractor for the 760 Ralph McGill Blvd project, tasked Schnabel with developing a robust excavation support system and multiple shotcrete foundation walls. These elements are critical for stabilizing a large underground parking structure with 1,250 spaces. Schnabel’s scope included the installation of over 100,000 square feet of permanent shoring systems—comprising soil nails, rock bolts, and tiebacks—as well as more than 72,000 square feet of permanent shotcrete foundation walls.

Riverfront Place | Columbus, GA

Schnabel collaborated with general contractor Brasfield & Gorrie to deliver excavation support and build permanent shotcrete walls for the Riverfront Place project. This effort was critical for constructing a 5-story building and a 7-story office space. By the end of the project, approximately 39,000 square feet of shotcrete had been applied.

The 725 Ponce project was one of the first projects in Atlanta where Schnabel installed permanent shotcrete walls for the below grade basement of the structure. The basement are typically cast-in-place concrete, however, on this project the shotcrete system proposed by Schnabel improved the overall project budget and schedule.
