This process involves drilling a small-diameter pipe (typically about 4 inches) to the target depth. Then, contractors inject cement grout at high pressures (around 6,000 psi) through the drill pipe. As the pipe rotates and is withdrawn, it forms a circular column of improved soil. The diameter of these columns can be controlled by altering the rate of withdrawal, allowing for adaptable support structures. These columns can provide vertical support individually or be combined to form barriers against the movement of soil and water.
