UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING COLLEGE OF BUSINESS | LARAMIE, WYOMING

City: Laramie
State: Wyoming
Owner: University of Wyoming
General Contractor: Adolfson and Peterson

Project Description:
As the University of Wyoming expanded its campus, space around the work sites became limited.  The design of the new College of Business building included large area wells to allow natural light to the basement work areas.  These area wells would require large retaining walls, and temporary shoring for the construction.  As a value engineering option, Schnabel proposed permanent tiedback retaining walls that would provide the required excavation support and serve as the permanent foundation wall as an economical alternate.

The work included the installation of both permanent and temporary tiedback retaining walls for about 850 lineal feet around the perimeter of the new building.  The excavation extended to a maximum depth of around 22 feet.  The permanent wall was completed using fully encapsulated tiebacks and a structural shotcrete wall facing.
