BEST JET GROUTING SERVICES
Schnabel, a premier design-build contractor in the United States, offers top-tier jet grouting services that are designed to help clients tackle complex operational challenges and meet their construction objectives with ease.
Jet grouting is an efficient technique for minimizing groundwater seepage into underground structures. It is also a reliable solution for underpinning existing structures and providing excavation support.
As one of the best jet grouting service providers in the country, we specialize in creating cement-stabilized soil that ensures superior groundwater control and foundation support.
With decades of experience, Schnabel brings the expertise necessary to navigate your unique jobsite challenges and successfully achieve your project goals.
JET GROUTING SOLUTIONS
Jet grouting is a specialized technique that involves mixing soil with injected cement grout directly at the site to form a cement-stabilized soil column. When done with meticulous quality control, the result is soil that demonstrates enhanced strength and reduced permeability. These altered properties make the treated soil a reliable engineered material for foundation support and groundwater management. Common applications for jet grouting include underpinning existing structures and constructing cutoff walls to provide excavation support.
The process begins with drilling or jetting a small-diameter pipe, typically around 4 inches, to the target treatment depth. Once at the desired depth, high-pressure cement grout—usually around 6,000 psi—is injected through ports at the end of the pipe. As the pipe is rotated and withdrawn, the grout creates a circular column of treated soil. By adjusting the rate of withdrawal, contractors can control the diameter of the jet grouting columns. These columns are strategically placed for vertical support, or overlapped to form a continuous wall that can act as a barrier to prevent the horizontal migration of weak soil or groundwater.

Jet grouting is an ideal solution when subsurface conditions include existing utilities or other underground obstacles, as the small-diameter pipe can navigate between these elements to create larger diameter columns in the soil beneath. When seeking the best jet grouting services, it’s essential to choose experts who can effectively manage such complexities to ensure optimal results.

JET GROUTING CASE STUDIES
Lower Olentangy Tunnel Project | Columbus, OH
Granite Construction, the general contractor, hired Schnabel for jet grouting along the 3.2-mile tunnel. Grouting was planned at 4 tunnel shafts for TBM break-in and break-out, 12 Safe Haven sites for cutterhead replacement, and 5 locations where a water main crosses the TBM alignment. Despite project challenges, Schnabel completed the work ahead of schedule.
J Avenue Water Treatment Plant | Cedar Rapid, IA
Schnabel installed 67 jet grout columns to support the expansion of the J Avenue water treatment plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This project required an excavation adjacent to an existing structure. The continuous wall of jet grout columns was successful in retaining the soil and water behind the wall and no measurable settlement of the tank structure occurred.
The Minneapolis Children’s Hospital project was Schnabel’s first application of jet grouting to underpin an existing structure in lieu of traditional hand-dug underpinning pits. The project team was very pleased with the performance of the jet grout underpinning system.
